Re-Developed Portfolio Pages

These are my re-developed portfolio pages for thursdays lesson,as you can see i have brought in the black background colour like i said i would and i have also involved my logo in the background but i have changed the blue to black and changed the opacity of it.I decided to change the typogrophy and position the type at the centre below the work,which i think works really well.I have still kept with my logo at the top right and the link to my design blog at the bottom right as i thought this was relevant.

Portfolio Thinking

After looking in detail my portfolio pages i have come to the conclusion that they are boring, so i have decided to go back to the drawing board and mock up some others.I still wanted them simple but also effective and i dont want a busy background to distract viewrs from my work.I was thinking of changing the background colour to black and making my work stand out more from the background,also i was thinking of involving my logo and initials more as this is my work.

Final Business Card

This is my final Business Card design,my aim was to keep the card simple,clean and nice interacting colours which i think i have achieved because I didnt want a busy business card.

This is my final Mediacity Illustration,as you can see i have kept with one of my design ideas and inserted the word Mediacity on it.I am sorry that the pages may not be in order i have just been having trouble with positioning the post with the other related posts.

Letterhead Design

This is my letterhead design which i think has come out very well,i like how i have used the logo within the background and changed the opacity to make it lighter,so text can actually go on it without looking distrupted.

'The History of The Manchester Arndale' final re-vamp

 

Finally i have finished the re-vamping,i decided the last DPS looked to plain so i decided to use one of the arndale images in the background.I changed the opacity so the words were not hard to read,i had to change that several times but now its readable and it all goes together well.Also i changed the typography as i had feedback that the last typography were too plain and boring.

In this design i decided to scrap the black background as it was too distracting,i have decided to go with a clean white background to give my DPS a professional look.

Advertisement on DPS

On this image i have included my advertisement on my DPS,i decided to put it in the bottom right hand corner as i think it looks clean,simple and effective.

My Advertisement design

This is my Advertisement that i have designed,i wanted it very similar to the Manchester Arndale logo so my advertisement represents it very well,i have added the the online website link at the bottom right of the advertisement.Also i have added a drop shadow to make it look good but this may be trouble in future reference.

Arndale logo

This is the Manchester Arndale logo that i have researched,For my idea i was thinking of using the same colour scheme and similar layout.Also at the bottom i was thinking of including the website for the online magazine so people can look for themselves.

Advertisement change

For my advertisement i was going to produce a sales advertisement for th Manchester Arndale.But i came up to the conclusion that the magazine is'nt based on the month,and on that note the sales mite change so the advert would be false.So after thinking hard i am still going to stay with Arndale theme but do an advertisement on the Andale website and online magazine.

Design 2 experimental re-vamp

I thought the DPS would look good with an image of an actual Manchester Industrial Factory across the Double spread.I also have kept the red border at the top as i like how the colour red combines with the black and white.I may change the typography layout so it goes across both pages.

Experimental Re-vamps

After looking at my designs a little bit inside me tells me i should still experiment and see if i can progress on my designs.I may find better designs i may not but it will be a win win situation in the design terms.

Design 2 'Manchester Industrial Revolution'

In this design i wanted to do the exact same as the other design,which was to make it as simple as i could to communicate to the readers that the words in the article is the most important part.

In this double-page spread that i like the most is the illustration of the a Manchester industrial factory,which i think gives the spread a great look and also a professional look.

Design 1 'The History of The Manchester Arndale'

This magazine double-page layout i wanted to be as simple as i could do it,so it makes the words in the article more important.

I like how the three images are based within the centre and across the spread,also the red borders which make the title of the article stand out as thats what i wanted to achieve.

Difficulty solved

After really thinking about how to put my programme based Indesign magazine double-page spreads on,i decided to just screen print my images so it will show the programme i worked on and show the actual layout of my double-page spreads.
Problem solved.......

This is a rough sketch of the layout for my Manchester Industrial Revolution,i still wanted to include my red border at the top of the page as i think this will signify my pages.I also wanted to include an image that crosses the second page of the layout as this is what i found as i was researching double-page spreads.I wanted to keep both of my layouts as simple as i could so it made the information of the article more important and stand out.

Research of my travels to the Arndale

As i need to research for The history of the Manchester Arndale double-page spread i am producing i decided to go to the arndale and see if i can pick up any information as well as images of the building.I first had gone into The Arndale House which i positioned within the Arndale.Once i were there i explained at the information desk what i was producing and asked if she had any more information on the history of the arndale or any old images of the place before the bombing.She had taken my details down,but i am yet still to recieve anything from them.

After i did that i decided to walk round the building and take pictures that possibly could benefit in my double-page spread.

Difficulty

I am having difficulty with putting my Double-page spreads on this blogger.I produced my layouts on the programme Indesign,so i will have to find a solution on how to put them on my blog.

Out of all the images my favourite ones are image 3 and 5,Hopefully i may use these images within my double-page spread.Unfortunately these images where taken on my mobile phone as my batteries ran out.

Review Of Layout Ideas

After looking closely at my Designs for my Double-Page spread i honestly think there is room for improvement on my designs,so i may tweek my second design abit or maybe re-design the layouts altogether.I want to try and make my Layout completley professional as i can.

Here is my first design for my double-page spread layout,I hand drew this and scanned it in on the computer.I preferred to hand draw the sketches as i think as i progress i will want to change my idea.
Design 1:

 This is just a rough sketch just to find my final layout.I think this layout is neat but i think i could produce a better layout.

Design 2:

This is my second design,which i prefer better than Design 1.I think the layout is more professional and i like how the borders come from the spine of the pages.

Here i have scanned one of my dads's magazine companies 'Motorcycle Racer' for examples of a double-page spreads.The 'Motorcycle Racer' is the world's no.1 race magazine.I apologise if the images aren't of great quality as my scanner could only do a4 image at a time.

What exactly is a double-page spread?

When you open a magazine/newspaper, the two pages facing each other create a spread. When the pages coordinate, they're considered a double-page spread. It's basically two layouts that coordinate through colour and theme to create a unified effect, instead of just two single layouts that stand alone.
I personally love how a double-page spread looks in a magazine. It creates a great effect that helps the pages flow. Double-page spreads are great for a couple of reasons. First, if you have too many photos to fit on a single page, a double-page spread allows you to spread out a little. They also allow more room for journaling.

For my second idea as i will be chosing the history of the arndale i was thinking of doing an advertisement strictly for the students.In this advertisement i will include the shops that are doing discount and sales around the arndale.These are some of the examples of shop sales:

As christmas is nearly here i was thinking of doing an advertisement of the 'Manchester Arndale' for christmas shopping. So would have to include an image that makes the Arndale look ready for christmas,for example:

This is just an idea of an image to advertise the Arndale for christmas. For my advertisement i will personally take photos for myself an add typography on to it to make it look like an advertisement.

Article Idea 3

This idea i was thinking of doing the history of the 'The Arndale Centre' as this is a focal point of the Centre of Manchester. So i will discuss when the Arndale was built (during 1970s),also inlclude that the Manchester Arndale is the largest of the Arndale chains. It was also originally constructed in phases between 1972 and 1979,at a cost of £100 m.
















Also the other re-development again due to the 'Provisional Irish Republican Army' bombing in 1996.

Article Idea 2

For this idea i was thinking of looking how things have changed since the industrial revolution began. Manchester was the first big city formed by the industry until the late 18th Century,It also had the only inland waterway connecting the sea to an inland port.

This is where i could also look at how Manchester competed with Liverpool as a port and that's why they are such big rivals and detest each other.

Past illustrations

I did this illustration last year,the brief was to do a project that included my personal interests,mine being 'electro music'.

This brief was to produce a new logo for 'The City of Manchester',so i decided to go for something unusual and include the four focal points of Manchester: Manchester wheel,Hilton Hotel,War Museum and Manchester University.

These are two 'Batman' canvas' that i did for my room about two years ago,which i have just slightly darkened for the presentation for this blog.
